Written in the Stars

"I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream".   -Vincent Van Gogh

No. 3 of my parallel series to Running of the Bulls taps into my fascination with the wonders and eternal beauty of stars. Written in the Stars tells the story of my passionate quest in search of my true calling in life by connecting the my past, present, and dreams of the future. Life is composed of a series of moments, determined by fate and altered by our actions. The relationships we hold with others further intertwine these webs of moments and propel us further into this journey of life. Day by day, we reach towards the stars, connecting points until we have created our own constellation of success.

Written in the Stars was composed using a variety of acrylic and spray paints to achieve an expressive and textured piece. A deep and energetic backdrop was created with layer upon layer of blue hues, glossy black splatters, and iridescent accents. Each point of stark white paint represents stars, the moments in life which are connected with the world around us. Finally, the bull skull is a representation of me....all of us...fighters for dreams and lovers of life. The skull was rendered with layers of rose gold, yellow gold, and glowing neon pink spray paints to resemble the glittering images of galaxies. Contrastingly, It pushes against the canvas edges attempting to break free from physical limits. These limits are the ones that we choose to place on ourselves, for life is meant to be pursued as freely and vast as the universe itself.

Midweek Muse: Yrjo Edelmann

Today I am pleased to share the work of an artist that truly blows my mind. At first glance, the images translate as photographs of iridescent paper, imperfectly wrapped and held with masking tape.

The shocking truth is that these pieces are two-dimensional, oil paintings on canvas by Swedish artist, Yrjo Edelmann (1941-2016). Edelmann achieved great success through out his artistic career and was considered a "great illusionist amidst the Swedish contemporary art world."

Johan Persson of Galleri GKM magnificently states, Yrjo Edelmann's pictures are frequently located in the territory between dream and experience, in a vacuum where the eye wanders through a labrynth of almost infinite proportions

I am amazed not only by the hyper-realism achieved by oil paints, but also by the incredible tension, depth, irregularity of shapes, and reflection of light in these compositions. Edelmann exquisitely achieved the fusion between traditional painting techniques and the innovation of contemporary art. These pieces would make the perfect "gift" for my walls with their chic tones and "ready to open" appeal.

IF KARL LAGERFELD HAD AN ALTER EGO....

It would certainly be a Santa Pug....

Better hope you make it on the 'Nice' List because this year Santa Lagerfeld Pug is taking over, and he is ready to drop down the chimney in style and scatter Chanel and Fendi goodies all under your Christmas tree.

P.S. Leave behind some dog treats and milk- Highly recommended.
